Ord 3118 9/21/1976 ORDINANCE NO. 2i/1 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1602.2 OF THE PLUMBING CODE AND ADDING A SECTION 1602.2. 1 TO THE PLUMBING CODE TO PREVENT CONFUSION CAUSED BY THE DUPLICATION OF SECTION NUMBERS IN THE ORIGINAL ORDINANCE AND ALSO PROVIDING FOR THE USE OF POLYETHELENE THERMOPLASTIC GAS PRESSURE PIPE TUBING FOR UNDERGROUND SERVICE LINES AND FURTHER PROVIDING THAT THE MINIMUM GAS SERVICE LINE PIPE SIZE MAY BE REDUCED TO A MINIMUM OF THREE-QUARTERS (3/4) FOR A SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE ONLY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 2733 passed and approved on September 19, 1972 included two sections numbered 1602.2 it is now deemed advisable that the second section numbered 1602.2 and captioned "underground service lines" shall be renumbered and designated as Section 1602.2. 1 in order to avoid con- fusion caused by this duplication of numbers. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1 . Section 1602.2 underground service lines is hereby renumbered Section 1602.2. 1 and is hereby amended to read as follows : "1602.2. 1 Underground service lines ; materials and size. Underground gas service lines shall be either black steel pipe or polyethelene thermoplastic gas pressure pipe tubing and fittings . Black steel pipe shall be protected against soil corrosion with an approved type protective coating. Coating shall extend six (6) inches above ground and couplings shall be the long, recessed type coupling. Plastic pipe and fittings shall conform to ASTM D-2513-67. No plastic pipe shall be installed above ground. The minimum gas service line pipe size shall be one and one-quarter (14) inch ; provided, however, if gas pressure is in excess of five (5) pounds at the gas company main , the minimum size may be reduced to a minimum of three-quarter (3/4) inch with one (1) inch meter riser, properly supported, for single family residences only. All underground gas pipe shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer' s recommendations." SI) SECTION 2 Because of the monetary expense to the consumer of the former method of installation of gas pipe and the substantial savings which will be occasioned by the new requirement for underground gas pipe line size contained herein , it is hereby deemed a measure of substantial economic benefit to the public welfare that this ordinance take effect immed- iately and we therefore declare an emergency and direct that this ordinance take effect immediately upon its passage.
