Ord 3499 6/12/1979 ORDINANCE NO. A 19
ORDINANCE EXTENDING STATE OF DISASTER EMERGENCY
FOR SEVEN DAYS , AND EXTENDING CONTROL OF RENTS.
WHEREAS, the state of emergency declared by Ordinance
No. 3498 automatically terminates on June 13, 1979, by virtue
of Article 5890 (e) , Revised Civil Statutes of Texas; and,
WHEREAS, the aftermath of the tornado still creates an
emergency.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN
OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Prior approval having been given by the
Governor, the state of disaster emergency in the City of
Wichita Falls is hereby extended for a period of seven days,
ending June 20, 1979, such extension being reasonably necessary
to protect the health, life and property of the City and its
inhabitants.
SECTION 2. Finding that there has been a substantial
disruption of the local, free, competitive market in the
rental of housing units, the maximum rental prices estab-
lished by Ordinance No. 3491 to be charged by lessors or
owners of apartments, duplexes, multi-family dwellings,
rooming houses, hotels and motels, are hereby extended for
a period of fifteen days, through June 27, 1979.
SECTION 3. Any violations of this ordinance shall
subject the offender to the penalties provided in Article
5890 (e) , Revised Civil Statutes of Texas.
SECTION 4. Because of the destruction of property
and disruption of the competitive market caused by the April
10 tornado, this ordinance is declared to be an emergency
ordinance, and shall become effective upon its passage.
