Res 070-84 4/17/1984RESOLUTION NO. 77 RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION TO SUPPORT THE CONCEPT OF PROVID- ING REDUCED RATES FOR INDIVIDUALS AGED SIXTY-FIVE AND OVER WITH BELOW POVERTY LEVEL INCOMES WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls recognizes that all utility rates, including telephone service, are increasing; and WHEREAS, increasing telephone rates pose a hardship on elderly residents on fixed low incomes; and WHEREAS, a major increase in telephone service rates may result in elderly low-income residents being forced to drop telephone service; and WHEREAS, the inability to afford telephone service will eliminate a needed source of social interaction for senior citizens and make it difficult or impossible for senior citizens to contact required emergency services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1 . The Public Utility Commission of the State of Texas is hereby urged to approve and implement a telephone rate system which provides lower rates for low-income senior citizens. Section 2. While taking no position on Southwestern Bell 's proposal for optional local measured service, we call upon the Public Utility Commission to make provisions for lower rates for low-income elderly residents under whatever tariff system is finally adopted under the rate request currently before it in Docket 5547.
