ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING NEW REGULATIONS GOVERNING
PARKING METERS AND REPEALING SECTIONS 29-147,
29-148, and 29-154.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Sections 29-147, 29-148, and Section 29-154 of the Code of Ordinances
as amended are hereby repealed.
SECTION 2. The Code of Ordinances of the City of Wichita Falls is hereby amended
by adding new Section 29-147, 29-148, and 29-154 to read as follows.
"SECTION 29-147. Parking meter zones generally.
(a) Parking meter zones are hereby established within the district or upon those
streets or parts of streets as designated in section 29-148 in which zones the parking
of vehicles upon streets shall be regulated by parking meters between the hours specified
by appropriate signs, except on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays enumerated in
section 29-2.
(b) The city traffic engineer is hereby authorized, subject to the approval of the
board of aldermen to establish parking meter zones upon those streets or parts of
streets where it is determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation
that the installation of parking meters shall be necessary to aid in the regulation, control,
and inspection of the parking of vehicles.
SECTION 29-148. Zones described; installation.
(a) Parking meter zones are hereby established within the district or upon those
streets or parts of streets described herein in which the parking of vehicles on
streets shall be regulated by parking meters between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and
6:00 p.m. of every day except Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays as follows:

(b) The city traffic engineer shall install parking meters in the parking meter
zones established as provided in this article upon the curb immediately adjacent to each
designated parking space. Such meters shall be capable of being operated, either auto-
matically or mechanically, upon the deposit therein of one (1) five (5) or ten (10) cent
coin of United States currency, for the full period of time for which parking is lawfully
permitted in any such parking zone.
(c) Each parking meter shall be so designated, constructed, installed, and set that
upon the expiration of the time period registered by the deposit of one or more coins,
as provided herein, it will indicate by an appropriate signal that the lawful parking
meter period has expired, and during said period of time and prior to the expiration
thereof, will indicate the interval of time which remains of such period.
(d) Each parking meter shall bear thereon a legend indicating the days and hours
when the requirement to deposit coins therein shall apply, the value of the coins to be
deposited, and the limited period of time for which parking is lawfully permitted in
the parking meter zone in which such meter is located.
SECTION 29-154. Penalty.
Every person who shall be convicted of a violation of section 29-150 of the Code
of Ordinances shall be punished by a fine of three dollars ($3.00) each successive
period of time, equal to the time limit on the parking meter, that a person allows
a vehicle to remain in a parking space on which the parking meter signal indicates
the lawful parking time has expired shall constitute a separate offense. Every person
who shall be convicted of violation of any of the other provisions of Article VI of
Chapter 29 of said Code shall be punished by a fine of not more than two hundred
dollars ($200.00).
