RESOLUTION CREATING A TASK FORCE ON AGING.
WHEREAS, the Mayor ' s Commission on the Status of Women has
recommended that the City Council appoint a task force to study
problems of the aging, and to begin to form a commission on aging;
and ,
WHEREAS, there are currently a number of agencies and organiza-
tions concerned with problems of the aging, including the Texas
Department on Aging, the Nortex Regional Planning Commission Area
Agency on Aging, Senior Citizens Services of North Texas , Inc . ,
American Association of Retired Persons , and others; and,
WHEREAS , the Mayor ' s Commission on the Status of Women has
found that a City Commission on Aging could serve the citizens
of Wichita Falls in the following ways :
1 . Serve as a liaison between state and city agencies for
receiving and distribution of information to the grass roots level .
2 . Monitor progress toward goals and objectives in programs
for the elderly.
3 . Monitor and maintain existing programs and create needed
ones where none currently exists .
4 . Monitor the distribution of funds to programs designed
to benefit the elderly.
5 . Develop programs which use the talents and experience
of older adults .
6 . Insure that local ordinances would be enforced which
affect consumer problems of the elderly.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
There is hereby established a Task Force on Aging, which
will consist of \S members . Such members shall be appointed
by the City Council , and shall be residents of Wichita Falls .
The City Council shall appoint one of the members as chairman,
and the task force will meet at the call of the chairman.
The task force shall study the following issues , and make
findings and recommendations to the City Council concerning such
issues , to-wit:
1 . What services for the aging are furnished by existing
agencies and organizations , and are there other needed services ,
which are not being provided, which make desirable the establishment
of a City Commission on Aging.
2 . If such a commission is needed, with what duties and
powers should such a commission be charged.
3 . If such a commission is needed, of how many members
should it consist, what should the qualifications of such members
be , and what individual citizens should be considered for appoint-
ment.
The task force shall hold its meetings , seek citizen input
through public hearings or otherwise, and make its findings and
recommendations to the City Council in a written report on or
before May 1 , 1987 . This resolution shall be automatically repealed,
and the task force shall be dissolved, on May 1 , 1987 , or on the
date on which it makes its final report to the City Council ,
whichever comes first.
