RESOLUTION NO. 474
RESOLUTION DECLARING CITY COUNCIL SUPPORT OF MIDWESTERN
STATE UNIVERSITY.
WHEREAS, Midwestern State University is as much a part of Wichita Falls as
the brick and mortar of our City's public buildings or the indomitable spirit
and tenacious determination of our people; and,
WHEREAS, there exists between Midwestern State University and the people
of this North Texas region a lifelong friendship and understood partnership
built upon a strong basis of community financial support and intense feeling of
community pride and commitment to the University; and,
WHEREAS, in turn, the University has responded to community needs and
concerns by providing quality education and the scientific research data required
to insure sound business and industrial growth in this area; and,
WHEREAS, a further enhancement of this cooperation has been made possible
through the governance of this institution by a separate Board of Regents,
knowledgeable and appreciative of the educational needs and concerns of the
area; and,
WHEREAS, in these oil depressed times, the dictate for cooperative efforts
assumes additional importance; and,
WHEREAS, the responsiveness of Midwestern State University in retraining
the unemployed, while increasing its scientific and economic research data to
the business community has become a vital, integral part in laying the pathway
for economic survival and the future financial stability for our area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls, though it understands and
appreciates the task of economic streamlining set before the Select Committee
on Higher Education, most fervently requests that Midwestern State University
be allowed to remain Midwestern State University, autonomous in governance, and
unrestricted in venture.
