RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING GRANT APPLICATION TO THE STATE
DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, TRAFFIC
SAFETY SECTION FOR HAZARDOUS DRIVER REMOVAL-DRUNK DRIVER
APPREHENSION PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Driving While Intoxicated is a serious problem in Wichita Falls
and is factor in fatal and injury accidents in the city; and
WHEREAS, the Wichita Falls Police Department does not have commissioned
police personnel resources sufficient to deter DWI violations; and
WHEREAS, funds are available through the State Department of Highways
and Public Transportation, Traffic Safety Section for a Drunk Driver
Apprehension Program; and
WHEREAS, a selective traffic enforcement program is a viable means of
reducing the incidence of such violations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Manager is hereby authorized to make application to the State
Department of Highways and Public Transportation, Traffic Safety Section for
grant funding in the amount of $84,839, and to execute the grant agreement
for the City of Wichita Falls, Texas.
