RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING GRANT APPLICATION TO
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION FOR
NORTH TEXAS REGIONAL DANGEROUS DRUG/CONTROLLED
SUBSTANCE TASK FORCE
WHEREAS, the Police Department is actively involved in the enforcement
of the Dangerous Drug and Controlled Substances laws of the State of Texas
through its Narcotics/Criminal Intelligence Unit; and
WHEREAS, the North Texas Area has become a haven for drug dealers and
manufacturers, resulting in an increase in the amount of illicit drugs
available in this region and a corresponding increase in the number of
persons involved in drug abuse; and
WHEREAS, there is a necessity for a coordinated system of criminal
intelligence and a concerted effort to stem the flow of illicit drugs into
the North Texas area through a combined law enforcement drug enforcement
task force, and the creation of such a task force is possible with funding
available through the Governor's Office, Criminal Justice Division,
requiring no matching funds from the City of Wichita Falls, and providing
the computer hardware and equipment necessary to facilitate the formation
and operation of such a task force; and
WHEREAS, the estimated cost for this project for the first year would
be $154,928, of which $141,928 will be funded by the state grant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Manager is hereby authorized to make an application to the
Texas Criminal Justice Division for a grant in the amount of $154,928 for
this project, and to execute the grant agreement for the City of Wichita
Falls, Texas.
