RESOLUTION CREATING A TASK
FORCE ON THE HANDICAPPED
WHEREAS, the City Council has requested creation of a Task
Force on the Handicapped to study the need for and feasibility of
establishing a Commission on the Handicapped.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
There is hereby established a Task Force on the Handicapped,
which will consist of fifteen members. Such members shall be
appointed by the City Council, and shall be residents of Wichita
Falls. The City Council shall appoint one of the members as
chairman, and the task force will meet at the call of the
chairman.
The task force shall study the following issues, and make
findings and recommendations to the City Council concerning such
issues, to-wit:
1. What services for the handicapped are furnished by
existing agencies and organizations, and are there other needed
services, which are not being provided, which make desirable the
establishment of a City Commission on the Handicapped.
2. If a Commission on the Handicapped is needed, with what
duties and powers should such a commission be charged.
3 . If a Commission on the Handicapped is needed, of how
many members should it consist, what should the qualifications of
such members be, and what individual citizens should be
considered for appointment.

The task force shall hold its meetings, seek citizen input
through public hearings or otherwise, and make its findings and
recommendations to the City Council in a written report on or
before June 1, 1988. This resolution shall be automatically
repealed, and the task force shall be dissolved, on June 1, 1988,
or on the date on which it makes its final report to the City
Council, whichever comes first.
