Res 009-88 1/5/1988RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE COLLECTION OF STATE
SALES TAX AT THE POINT OF DESTINATION FOR OUT -
OF -STATE CATALOGUE AND TELEVISION SALES WITH A
PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL
UNITS OF GOVERNMENT.
WHEREAS, Federal legislation is pending which would
authorize destination collection of sales taxes on sales made
through the mail or television by out -of -state vendors; and,
WHEREAS, whether local governments will receive a
proportional share of the revenues collected is currently being
negotiated; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to express
support of the proposed sales tax with the stipulation that the
revenues are distributed proportionately among the state,
counties, and cities as is currently done with retail sales
involving in -state and multi -state vendors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls hereby
resolves to support federal legislation authorizing collection of
state sales tax at the point of destination for out -of -state
catalogue and television sales with a stipulation that the
revenues are distributed proportionately among the state,
counties and cities as is currently done with retail sales
involving in -state and multi -state vendors.
