RESOLUTION CONDEMNING OPPRESSIVE
ACTION TAKEN BY CHINESE GOVERNMENT
AGAINST UNARMED STUDENTS IN DEMON-
STRATIONS IN BEIJING
WHEREAS, there is a common bond among all peoples
which transcends geography, culture, religion and race and
all political systems; and
WHEREAS, as a nation of free people, we are opposed
to fratricide, genocide, and oppressions anywhere in the
world; and
WHEREAS, in response to a peaceful demonstration of
students, the Chinese government did order a massacre of
unarmed civilians by its soldiers at the Gate of Heavenly
Peace in Beijing, and did use extreme violence in attempting
to crush the pro democracy movement; and
WHEREAS, we as citizens of Wichita Falls, Texas and
members of the world family, must express our sadness,
dismay and disappointment at this wanton slaughter of
peaceful, unarmed young people,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council of Wichita Falls requests that the
Honorable George Bush, President of these United States,
convey our displeasure and that of millions of Americans to
the Republic of China for their unwise acts of oppression.
