Res 097-89 6/20/1989RESOLUTION NO. 7/1-P/ RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE BOARD OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY'S EFFORTS TO SECURE A MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON FOR THE WICHITA FALLS AREA WHEREAS, a major problem existing today in Texas is the over crowded condition of state prisons thus imposing heavy unfair hardships on cities and counties throughout the state in their attempts to incarcerate individuals found guilty of crimes, and WHEREAS, the State of Texas has determined that additional prisons are needed to help correct the overcrowded situation, and WHEREAS, the Board of Commerce and Industry in Wichita Falls is encouraging the selection of the Wichita Falls area as a designated site for a maximum security prison, and WHEREAS, it is the feeling of the BCI that a maximum security prison will not only assist in deterring crime through the provision of additional prison units but also will be a safe, clean industry for the area with a long term, stable lifetime, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: The City Council of Wichita Falls supports the Wichita Falls Board of Commerce and Industry in their efforts to secure designation for the Wichita Falls area as a site for a maximum security prison.
