RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILLS
327 AND 328 BY THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE, SAID
BILLS RELATING TO CREATION OF THE OFFENSE OF
TRANSFERRING AN UNLABELED MOVIE VIDEO, AND
CREATION OF AN OFFENSE FOR THE SALE OR RENTAL
OF GRAPHICALLY VIOLENT MOVIE VIDEOS TO
MINORS.
WHEREAS, researchers and parents groups are increasingly
disturbed by mounting psychological research showing that youth
exposed to extremely violent films become more accepting of
violence and more callous toward real -life victims of sexual
violence; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Wichita Falls
believes that passage of House Bills 327 and 328 will enhance the
power of parents to control selection of such material viewed by
their children.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, hereby
endorses and supports passage by the Legislature of the State of
Texas House Bills 327 and 328, regulating the sale or rental of
graphically violent videos to persons under 17 years of age.
