ORDINANCE NO. 62-84
ORDINANCE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING THE OPERATION
I OF SECTIONS 29-147 THROUGH 29-154 OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES (EXCEPT FOR THE 1000 BLOCK OF LAMAR
STREET AND MUNICIPAL AIRPORT) WHICH PROVIDE FOR
PARKING METERS, AND PROHIBITING PARKING FOR LONGER
THAN TWO HOURS IN ANY PARKING METER SPACE HERETOFORE
DESIGNATED BY THE CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY T COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS , TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1 . The operation of Sections 29-147 through 29-154
of the Code of Ordinances shall be temporarily suspended for a
period of 90 days after the adoption of this ordinance, except
insofar as they affect the 1000 Block of Lamar Street and Municipal
Airport. During this period, the parking meters shall be either bagged
or removed.
SECTION 2. During such 90 day period, it shall be unlawful
to park a vehicle for longer than two hours in any parking meter
space heretofore designated by the City Traffic Engineer, between
8 : 00 a.m. and 5: 00 p.m. of every day except Saturdays, Sundays and
the public holidays as defined in Section 29-2 of the Code of
Ordinances . The provisions of this ordinance shall be enforced by
the use of chalk marks on the vehicles ' tires.
SECTION 3 . Every person who shall be convicted of a violation
of Section 2 of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of $3 .00;
each successive hour period that a person allows a vehicle to
remain in the parking space shall constitute a separate offense.
SECTION 4 . The fact that it is claimed that parking meters
are detrimental to business in the downtown area creates an emergency,
and this is declared to be an emergency measure which shall become
effective upon its passage.
