RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION
SUBMITTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMERCE AND
INDUSTRY TO THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF
CORRECTIONS TO LOCATE A PRISON IN THE
WICHITA FALLS AREA AND AGREE TO PROVIDE
FIRE PROTECTION AND EXTEND WATER AND
SEWER LINES TO THE PROPOSED SITE
WHEREAS, a major problem existing today in Texas is the
overcrowded condition of state prisons, thus, imposing heavy
unfair hardships on cities and counties throughout the state in
their attempts to incarcerate individuals found guilty of crimes,
and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas has determined that additional
prisons are needed to help correct the overcrowded situation, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commerce and Industry (BCI) in Wichita
Falls is encouraging the selection of the Wichita Falls area as a
designated site for a maximum security prison, and
WHEREAS, it is the feeling of the BCI that a maximum
security prison will not only assist in deterring crime through
the provision of additional prison units, but also will be a
safe, clean industry for the area with a long-term, stable
lifetime,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council of Wichita Falls supports the application
submitted by the Board of Commerce and Industry to the Texas
Department of Corrections to locate a prison in the Wichita Falls
area and agrees to provide fire protection and extend water and
sewer lines to the proposed site.
