1. Call to Order
Chair Catherine Prose called the meeting to order at 8:13a.
2. Approval of minutes, oath of office and election of officers
Kevin Tiaden moved for approval of the minutes of the May 21, 2012 Arts Commission meeting.
Second by Ellen Jahnke, motion carried.
Following Agenda Item #4, the Commission returned to Agenda Item #2
Ellen Jahnke moved for Catherine Prose to remain as Chair, second by Kevin Tiaden; motion
carried.
John Vitek moved for Jeanne Rigg as Vice-Chair, second by Ellen Jahnke; motion carried.
Jeanne Rigg moved for Kevin Tiaden to remain as Secretary, second by John Hirschi; motion
carried.
3. Review of 2013 grant funding requests and Commission recommendations
The Commission interviewed representatives of organizations applying for the 2013 Arts and
Historical Preservation Grants:
• River Bend Nature Center (Representatives Liz Martin, Leslie Fernandes)
• MSU Combined Choirs (Representative Dr. James Schuppener)
• Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University: (Representative Francine
Carrarro)
• Wichita County Heritage Society: (Representatives Delores Culley, Stacie Flood)
• Wichita Falls Area Arts Council (Kemp Center): (Representative Carlana Fitch)
• Encore! Women's Choir(Representative Patti Milford)
• Backdoor Theatre: (Representative David Cerreta)
• Wichita Falls Ballet Theatre: (Representative Not Present)
• Wichita Falls Symphony League for Applause: (Representatives Genie Ratliff, Lynn
Bassett)
• Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, Inc.: (Representative Sherry Ransom)
• Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra: (Representatives Rachel Barber, Jodie White)
• Museum of North Texas History: (Representatives Charles Campbell, Kenny Mayo)
• Wichita Falls Fire and Police Museum: (Representatives Brad Corley, Tommy Smyth)
The Commission recommended the following funding amounts:
• River Bend Nature Center: $11,417
• MSU Combined Choirs $2,333
• Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University: $10,500
• Wichita County Heritage Society: $10,083
• Wichita Falls Area Arts Council, Inc. $11,167
• Encore! Women's Choir $0
• Backdoor Theatre: $11,667
• Wichita Falls Ballet Theatre: $9,833
• Wichita Falls Symphony League for Applause: $842
• Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, Inc.: $11,833
• Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra: $6,667
• Museum of North Texas History: $6,624
• Wichita Falls Fire and Police Museum: $10,833
• TOTAL $103,799
4. Other items of interest to the members
grant applicants and suggested The Commission discussed eligibility of gra pp 99 ested that in the future, a
grant applicant be a registered 501(c)3 organization or public university. This will be considered
for formal recommendation at a later date.
The Commission also discussed the status of the Priddy Foundation's arts review by consultant
Lord Cultural Resources, and the soon to be released Arts and Culture Master Plan. The
Commission members suggested meeting again following the publication of that report to review
its findings and recommendations. That is anticipated to be late summer 2013.
