ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 18 . 201 (c) OF THE FIRE
PREVENTION CODE TO REQUIRE FIRE HYDRANTS FOR ALL
NEW BUILDINGS AND REGULATING THE PLACEMENT THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the proper number and location of fire hydrants
capable of supplying a required fire flow, is necessary for all
buildings constructed in the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
Chapter 18 , Fire Prevention Code, Section 18 . 201 (c) is hereby
deleted in its entirety, and the following substituted therefor:
"c . Fire hydrants shall be provided for all buildings
so that a fire flow, as required by the fire official,
is available at all times, with the minimum
arrangement of hydrants being as follows :
(1) At least one fire hydrant shall be located
within four hundred (400) feet of all
portions of all buildings. Measurement of
such distance shall be along the unobstructed
exterior portion of the building to the
hydrant.
(2) Additional hydrants shall be located as
required by the fire official in order to
ensure that the total required fire flow is
available within four hundred (400) feet of
such portion of all buildings .
(3) Hydrants shall be installed within five (5)
feet of the curb line or, if no curb exists,
within five (5) feet of the access roadway.
(4) Parking of vehicles shall be prohibited within
fifteen (15) feet of a fire hydrant.
(5) Existing public fire hydrants may be considered
as constituting part or all of the requirements
of this section. "
