RFSOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT
OF A LOCAL DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS
OUTPATIENT CLINIC IN THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS
WHEREAS, our country ' s freedom has been secured by men and women
who risked their lives for our liberty, and
WHEREA3, there are more than 14, 000 veterans living in Wichita
County, and more than 113,500 in the surrounding counties of the 13th
and 17th Congressional Districts, plus spouses and dependents of
veterans, who because of their service to our country, are eligible
for Department of Veterans Affairs benefits, and
WHEREAS, there are many military veterans in the Wichita Falls
area who experience great difficulties in gaining access to basic
Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Facilities, including lack
of transportation, funds, age and health impediments , and
WHEREAS, in order tc obtain Department of Veterans Affairs
medical services, these veterans must travel over one hundred and
forty miles ( 140) to the closest Department of Veterans Affairs
Hospital and fifty (50) miles to the nearest Department of Veterans
Affairs Outpatient Clinic (Lawton, Oklahoma) ,
WHEREAS , the City Council of Wichita Falls is of the opinion that
a viable solution to our local veterans ' problem would be a community
based outpatient clinic to be established in Wichita Falls , Wichita
County, Texas .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE City Council of Wichita
Falls, that this City would be a logical , sensible location for a
Veteran ' s Affai/ s Outpatient Clinic and that the City Council of
Wichita Falls pledges its support and interest in a community based
Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic to be located in our
City to better serve the needs of local veterans and their dependents.
