RESOLUTION URGING THE TEXAS TURNPIKE
AUTHORITY TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY
ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE THE MERITS OF
BUILDING A BORDER-TO-BORDER HIGHWAY
CONNECTING WICHITA FALLS TO LAREDO
WHEREAS, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
will present a tremendous economic opportunity not only to the
andStateofTexasbuttheentireSouthwestaswell;
WHEREAS, to take advantage of this opp ortunit y we must have
sufficient infrastructure in place; and
WHEREAS, for some time there has been a need for an
additional north-south route capable of handling larger volumes
of commercial traffic primarily to the southwestern and
midwestern states; and
WHEREAS, NAFTA will greatly increase the urgency for
providing this additional transportation alternative.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
PART 1. That the City hereby urges the Board of Directors
of the Texas Turnpike Authority to conduct a feasibility study on
the merits of buildin g a border-to-border highway connecting
Wichita Falls to Laredo.
PART 2 . That the City will support the Turnpike Authority
in the development of this effort.
PART 3. That this resolution will take effect immediately
from and after its passage.
