AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1204. 2(a) ( 2) OF
THE PLUMBING CODE CONCERNING TESTING OF BACK-
FLOW PREVENTION DEVICES
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 72-85 was adopted on June 18, 1985
requiring the testing of backflow prevention devices; and,
WHEREAS, the annual testing of such devices has resulted
in only a 3 .75% failure rate; and,
WHEREAS, the Plumbing Advisory Board has recommended that
annual testing be completed once every five ( 5) years, rather
than annually as a result of the low failure rate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 1204. 2(a) ( 2) of the Plumbing Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"1204. 2(a) ( 2) Testing of Backflow Prevention Devices.
All backflow prevention devices shall be tested in accordance
with manufacturer' s recommended performance standards. Such
testing shall be conducted at the time of installation, at the
time of repair or relocation of such device, and at the com-
pletion of each five ( 5) years of service, or sooner if deemed
necessary by the Plumbing Inspector, for the protection of the
potable water supply. "
