A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE ENACTMENT OF
FEDERAL AND STATE LEGISLATION TO PROHIBIT CHILDREN
FROM BEING ALLOWED TO RIDE IN THE CARGO AREAS OF LIGHT
TRUCKS/PICKUP TRUCKS; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE
MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS DISCUSSED WAS OPEN
TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, the latest statistics from the Fatal Accident
Reporting System of the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) show an increase in life threatening and
permanent injuries and fatalities attributable to children
riding in the cargo areas of light trucks/pickups; and,
WHEREAS, the Traffic Safety Commission also urges that all
concerned public and private organizations work to implement
educational programs addressing the danger to children posed by
riding in the cargo areas of light trucks/pickups.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls
endorses and supports cooperative efforts by all interested
public and private organizations to alert the public to the
dangers posed to children by allowing them to ride in the cargo
area of a light truck/pickup.
SECTION 4. It is officially found and determined that the
meeting at which this resolution was passed was open to the
public as required by law.
