RESOLUTION DEMONSTRATING SUPPORT OF EFFORTS
TO KEEP THE WICHITA FALLS WEATHER SERVICE
OFFICE OPEN AND THE UPGRADING OF THAT OFFICE
TO A WARNING OFFICE FOR WICHITA COUNTY AND
THE SURROUNDING AREA
WHEREAS, the National Weather Service plans to close the
Wichita Falls Weather Service Office in 1996, and
WHEREAS, the Norman, Oklahoma Weather Service Office has
been assigned 58 counties in Texas and Oklahoma to provide
warning service which are too many counties for that office to
safely handle in severe weather, and
WHEREAS, the safety of all citizens of Wichita County and
the surrounding counties is at stake under the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) modernization program,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council does hereby support the efforts to keep the
Wichita Falls Weather Service Office open and the upgrading of
that office to be a warning office for Wichita County and the
surrounding area to insure the safety of all citizens
