RESOLUTION SUPPORTING CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT
AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE RED RIVER BASIN
CHLORIDE CONTROL PROJECT
WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been charged
with the development and construction of the Red River Chloride
Control Project as planned and authorized by Congress through
Public Laws 89 -789, 91 -611, and 99 -662 with continued federal
funding; and,
WHEREAS, a good quality of water is essential to sustain our
present and future way of life, and the continued economic growth
of our community; and,
WHEREAS, the reclamation of the Red River and its
tributaries present a viable solution to meet the future water
resource needs and economic development for the entire region of
the Red River Basin, and,
WHEREAS, the Red River Authority of Texas as the designated
local cooperating sponsor for the Chloride Control Project has
represented that the project is technically and economically
feasible, and proposes no known adverse impacts to the
environment or the ecosystems.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City of Wichita Falls hereby pledges its continued
support of the Red River Basin Chloride Control Project which is
believed to reclaim the waters of the Red River and its
tributaries as a useful natural resource for all beneficial
purposes of the people within the four -state region of Texas,
Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
