ORDINANCE NO. /-117
ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 42-4 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES , WHICH REGULATES
AMBULANCE EQUIPMENT .
WHEREAS , the Code of Ordinances has not been updated to reflect
the current State and Federal standards regulating ambulance vehicles
and medical equipment and medical supplies .
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT :
Section 41/2-4 of the Code of General Ordinances , which regulates
ambulance equipment , is hereby amended to read as follows :
Sec. 42-4 . Ambulance equipment .
(1) All vehicles used for the purpose of providing ambulance
service shall be maintained to meet or exceed the most re-
cent standards as set out in KKK-1822B , dated June 1 , 1985
or as superseded or amended, GSA Federal Specifications- -
Star-of-Life-Ambulance , to adequately transport ill , sick
or injured persons in comfort and safety, and shall be main-
tained in clean, sanitary and in first-class mechanical con-
dition at all times .
(2) All new or replacement ambulances shall be Type I , Class I
ambulances as specified in the most recent standards as set
out in KKK-1822B, Dated June 1 , 1985 or as superseded or
amended, GSA Federal Specifications- -Star-of-Life Ambulance
and designed, constructed and maintained to meet or exceed
these standards .
(3) All ambulances shall be inspected by the City of Wichita
Falls every ninety (90) days . In addition, the City of

Wichita Falls shall retain the right to inspect any ambu-
lance at any other time with reasonable notice to the oper-
ator.
(4) An ambulance that has been substantially damaged or al-
tered shall not be placed in service until it has passed
reinspection.
(5) All ambulances shall be subject to the rules and regula-
tions relating to the safety and operation of motor ve-
hicles as required by the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Wichita Falls and Statutes of the State of Texas .
(6) The City-County Health Unit shall be responsible for cer-
tifying the sanitation of ambulances and shall inspect
and certify that all ambulances are fully stocked with
medical equipment and supplies in accordance with the most
recent minimum standards for emergency medical services
equipment for basic life support emergency medical services
vehicles as specified in Section 157 . 67 of the rules
adopted by the Texas Board of Health under the authority
of the Emergency Medical Services Act , Article 4447o,
Vernon ' s Texas Civil Statutes , effective June 5 , 1984 or
as superseded or amended. The ambulance operator may
request a variance from these standards for a specific
hardship from the Texas Department of Health .
