AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PLUMBING CODE BY ADDING
SUBSECTION 502.16, THEREBY REGULATING THE USE OF
SOLDER CONTAINING LEAD
WHEREAS, the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendment of 1986 has
mandated that pipe solder or flux used in the installation or
repair of any public water system be free of lead contaminants;
and,
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that a chief source of lead in
drinking water is older joints in water distribution systems;
and,
WHEREAS, the City should take necessary action to eliminate
such lead contaminants.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 502 of Chapter V of Ordinance 2733 is hereby amended
by adding Subsection 502. 16 to read as follows:
" ( 502. 16) Solder
Solder containing lead used for welding joints and fittings
of copper water pipe used for distribution of potable water is
prohibited. All solder used shall meet or exceed the require-
ments for lead free solder as required by the Federal Safe
Drinking Water Act Amendment of 1986 (Public Law 99-339) ."
