Ord 073-87 8/18/1987 Ordinance No. 73-87 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 901 OF THE CITY PLUMBING CODE BY ADDING RESTRICTIONS ON THE MAXIMUM VOLUME OF WATER FOR URINALS, TOILETS, AND LAVATORY FACILITIES WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls recognizes the need to further conserve water; and, WHEREAS, the volume of water for certain plumbing facilities and devices is of concern relative to such conservation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: Section 901 of Chapter IX of Ordinance 2733 is hereby amended by adding Subsections 901.2, 901. 3 , 901. 4, and 901. 5 to read as follows: " ( 901. 2) Urinals Urinals shall be designed, manufactured, and installed to be operable and adequately flushed with no more than one and one- half ( 12 ) gallons of water per flush. Automatic flushing devices of the siphonic design shall not be used to operate urinals. (901.3) Water Closets (Toilets) Water closets, either flush tank or flushometer operated, shall be designed, manufactured and installed to be operable and adequately flushed with no more than three and one-half ( 32 ) gallons of water per flushing cycle when tested in accordance with applicable standards. ( 901.4) Public Lavatory Facilities Faucets for public lavatories shall be equipped with outlet devices which limit the flow of water to a maximum of 0. 5 gallons per minute or be equipped with self-closing valves that limit the delivery to a maximum of 0. 25 gallons per minute of hot water for recirculating systems and to a maximum of 0. 5 gallons per minute for non-recirculating systems. Exception: Separate lavatories for physically handicapped persons shall not be equipped with self-closing valves. p -2- • (901. 5) Private Facilities Faucets, showerheads and sink faucets for private use shall be designed, manufactured and installed to deliver water at a flow rate not to exceed 3 .0 gallons per minute when tested in accordance with applicable standards.
