ORDINANCE NO. 76-87
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE TO
PROVIDE FOR AWNINGS IN THE SETBACK AREAS OF LOTS
WHEREAS, the Planning & Zoning Commission has recommended
that certain types of awnings be allowed in the setback areas of
lots; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Wichita Falls,
Texas, deems that the proposed amendment is in accordance with
the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, and in the public interest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Section 2000 of the Zoning Ordinance is hereby
amended to add the following:
"Awning: A roof-like cover, temporary in nature, extending
from the wall of the building/ structure, over an area to
provide shade and/or shelter. The awning shall be entirely
supported by the exterior wall of the building with no
independent means of support. "
SECTION 2. Section 4220 of the Zoning Ordinance is hereby
amended to add the following:
"H. Awnings may project into the front or exterior side
setback area of a lot, or a rear setback area of a
through lot, to a maximum distance of six ( 6) feet;
provided no supporting structure for such extension is
located on the ground within such setback areas.
However, awnings shall not extend more than three ( 3)
feet into such setback areas of single-family and
duplex residential uses. "
