A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR
A UNIVERSAL HIRING GRANT
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls Police Department has seen the need to
implement a Community Policing approach of law enforcement to the citizens of Wichita
Falls; and,
WHEREAS, the Federal government has made grant funds available under the
Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Universal Hiring Program to
hire new police officers for Community Policing purposes; and,
WHEREAS, the Wichita Falls Police Department would like to make application
for four (4) new officers under this grant; and,
WHEREAS, the total amount of the grant over a three -year period will be
$468,408.00 with the Federal Government supplying $300,000.00 and the City
matching with $168,408.00 and then fully funding the officers in the fourth year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Manager is authorized to apply for a Universal Hiring Grant for the
Wichita Falls Police Department.
