Res 162-98 11/3/1998RESOLUTION NO. —� RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE NAMING OF CITY -OWNED FACILITIES; DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW. WHEREAS, requests have been and will be made for the naming or renaming of properties or facilities owned or under the control of the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that criteria for such naming should be established to recognize achievements and contributions of individuals. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The following criteria shall hereafter be established: The City of Wichita Falls may, upon a majority vote by the City Council, name City - owned property or facilities in honor of a person, family, or organization (herein referred to as persons) based on one or more of the following criteria: • To memorialize or otherwise recognize persons who have made exemplary and lasting contributions to the nation, state, county or city. • To memorialize or otherwise recognize substantial gifts and significant donors to a City -owned property or facility. • To memorialize or otherwise recognize persons who have been exceptionally instrumental in shaping the future of the city and /or its citizens. • To memorialize or otherwise recognize deceased individuals according to the following criteria in addition to one of the above: ■ Has been deceased at least five years; and ■ Where there is general broad -based support for the naming of the property or facility. • Naming or renaming of a City street shall be subject to requirements of Appendix A of the Code of Ordinances. Exceptions to the preceding provisions or criteria shall be made upon unanimous vote of the City Council present and voting when such exceptions are recommended. SECTION 2. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law PASSED AND APPROVED this the 3rd day of November, 1998.
