Resolution awarding the bid for Police Motorcycles to BMW
Motorcycles of North Dallas in the amount of $23,419 each for 3 BMW
R1200 RT-P’s for a total of $70,257
WHEREAS, the City’s 2013-14 budget included funding to purchase 3
replacement police motorcycles for the Motorcycle Patrol Unit of the Police Department;
WHEREAS, City staff evaluated various makes and models of police motorcycles
and determined that the BMW R1200RT-P Police Motorcycle or its equivalent would
meet the City’s needs for a police motorcycle;
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this bidding process complied with
Chapter 252 of the Texas Local Government Code;
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the bids by PUP, Inc. and Specialty
Recreation & Marine failed to comply with the City’s bid specifications because (1) their
transmissions were not 6 forward speed transmissions as required by the bid
specifications, (2) the amperage was insufficient to meet the electrical requirements in
the bid specifications [important because electrical issues have been a problem in the
past], and (3) the travel on the swing arm was insufficient to meet the requirements of
the bid specifications [only on the Yamaha]; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the bid for 3 BMW 1200 RTP’s by BMW
Motorcycles of North Dallas was the lowest bidder that met the City’s specifications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The bid for the purchase of Police Motorcycles is awarded to BMW Motorcycles
of North Dallas in the amount of $23,419 each for 3 BMW R1200 RT-P’s for a total of
$70,257, and City staff are authorized to execute all documents necessary to complete
said purchase.
PASSED AND APPROVED this the 18th day of February, 2014.
