An Ordinance Amending Chapter 24, Section 24-21 (a) ,
City of Wichita Fails Code of Ordinance, and
Increasing the Number of Classified Personnel
In the Police Department and Declaring
an Emergency
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls Police Department is
currently authorized a compliment of 165 Personnel in the
classified positions of the department, and
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls has been awarded a
grant from the Governor's Office, Criminal Justice Division
to provide for a narcotics enforcement officer who will be
assigned to the Regional Drug Enforcement Task Force, and
WHEREAS, an urgent public necessity exists to increase
the number of narcotics enforcement officers in the police
department to combat the increasing problems of drug
trafficking and abuse, and, therefore, the charter
requirement delaying the effective date of this ordinance
for thirty days from date of passage is hereby suspended and
this ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage,
and
WHEREAS, Chapter 143 , Section 143 . 021 (a) of the Local
Government Code requires that the governing body of the city
must establish the number of personnel in the classified
positions of the Police Department in each classification;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 24-21 (a) of the Code of Ordinances is hereby
amended and authorizing and setting the number of personnel
in each classified position within the Police Department, as
follows:
