ORDINANCE NO. /e-90/-;
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE WICHITA FALLS CODE OF ORDINANCES,
APPENDIX C (ZONING ORDINANCE) , REQUIREMENTS FOR HANDICAPPED
PARKING
WHEREAS, the Planning & Zoning Commission has recommended amending
certain sections of the Zoning Ordinance concerning requirements for
Handicapped parking; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council deems that amending the Zoning Ordinance
requirements for handicapped parking is in accordance with the
comprehensive Land Use Plan, and in the public interest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Section 6222, Appendix C, Code of Ordinances, City of
Wichita Falls, Texas, is hereby deleted.
SECTION 2. Section 6224 , Appendix C, Code of Ordinances, City of
Wichita Falls, Texas, is hereby established to read as follows:
6224 HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE PARKING REGULATIONS
In each parking facility, a portion of the total parking shall be
specifically designed, located, and reserved for vehicles licensed by
the State for use by the handicapped. These spaces shall be provided
according to the following schedule:

SECTION 3. Section 6225 (B) , Appendix C, Code of Ordinances, City
of. Wichita Falls, Texas, is hereby deleted.
SECTION 4 . Section 6226, Appendix C, Code of Ordinances, City of
Wichita Falls, Texas, is hereby established to read as follows:

6226 DESIGN STANDARDS FOR HANDICAPPED PARKING FACILITIES:
a. Parking Space Standards: Handicapped accessible parking
spaces must be at least 19 feet deep and 8 feet wide with an
access aisle which may be shared by two (2) handicapped
accessible space. The minimum width of the access aisle
shall be 5 ft. , except when adjacent to a van accessible
space, in which case the minimum width shall be 9 ft. All
van accessible spaces may be grouped on one level of a
parking structure. The parking access aisle shall be part of
an accessible route to the building or facility entrance.
Parking spaces and access aisles shall be level with surface
slopes not exceeding 1:50 (2%) in all directions,. Vertical
clearance must be at least 8'-2" .

b. Location: Handicapped accessible parking spaces serving a
particular building shall be located on the shortest
accessible route of travel from adjacent parking to an
accessible entrance. In parking facilities that do not serve
a particular building, accessible parking shall be located on
the shortest accessible route of travel to an accessible
pedestrian entrance of the parking facility. In buildings
with multiple accessible parking entrances with adjacent
parking accessible parking spaces shall be dispersed and
located closest to the accessible entrances.
c. Signage: Accessible parking spaces shall be designated as
reserved by a sign showing the symbol of accessibility and
shall have an additional sign "Van Accessible" mounted below
the symbol of accessibility. Such signs shall be located so
they cannot be obscured by a vehicle parked in the space.
