Librarian's report:
ort:
Tammy Benninger has been hired as the new Youth Services Librarian and started city employment on November 11,2013. Ms.
Benninger moved from Pitkin County, CO to take this position and has already become immersed in daily library operations.
With the new fiscal year underway, two more Early Literacy Stations have been ordered and delivered for use in the Youth
Department. This brings the total number of learning centers to four, with the newest additions replacing eight-year-old machines.
The library has once again been selected as a World Book Night site for 2014. The book giveaway is scheduled for April 23,2014,
and the library will again host a gathering prior to that date in order to allow book givers to pick up their titles and to meet one another
before dispersing books to the community.
The library will not be mounting a Food for Fines campaign this year, but will instead focus on seeking donations for the Wichita
County Humane Society and the P.E.T.S. low cost spay&neuter clinic. More creative staff members already have ideas on how to
decorate the Christmas tree in a pet-friendly manner, and youth crafts are being planned that center around four-legged friends.
Two RFID conversion stations have been leased for a month from 3M in order to begin the process of tagging all barcoded library
material. To date, over 40,000 tags have already been applied, with staff averaging between 6,500-6,700 items per day. There is a
degree of time sensitivity to the process since the monthly rental cost of each machine is$3,000. 3M,however,is well aware that
there are holidays and closings coming up shortly, and have been extremely generous in that they are allowing us plenty of wiggle
room! Hopefully this project will be completed by mid-December,with new security gates and new Self Checks installed and
operational by the end of the year.
Friends' report:
The next book sale will be December 5-7.
The Friends have also received a donated minivan that they plan to put to good use.
The organization remains committed to helping the library maintain a monthly standing order for Playaway Views, and is looking
ahead to 2014,planning their annual Dr. Seuss celebration during the first weekend in March.
Next meeting December 17,2013
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:52pm.
