AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 1988 THOROUGHFARE PLAN AND
ADOPTING THE 1996 WICHITA FALLS METROPOLITAN AREA
THOROUGHFARE PLAN; ADOPTING THE 1996 THOROUGHFARE PLAN
AS AN ELEMENT OF THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT
WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS
REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, a thoroughfare plan determines existing and future transportation corridors; and
WHEREAS, the lack of a defined thoroughfare plan may lead to improperly located commercial and
industrial uses, illogical land use patterns, and unnecessarily high traffic volumes in residential and other
areas; and
WHEREAS, a thoroughfare plan serves to limit the potential for congestion, provides enhanced
safety, and is a determinant of land use location by providing an infrastructure capable of growing with
the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds it is essential that a thoroughfare plan be adopted as the official
guide for future transportation and land use development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION i. The 1996 Wichita Falls Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan as shown by
Attachment A shall be the official guide for future transportation and land use development.
SECTION 2. The 1996 Wichita Falls Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan as shown by
Attachment A is adopted as an element of the Comprehensive Plan as the official guide for future
transportation and land use development.
SECTION 3. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this ordinance
was passed was open to the public as required by law.
