AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 29 "TRAFFIC" OF THE
WICHITA FALLS CODE OF ORDINANCES TO AMEND SECTION 29-
124, PROVIDING FOR THE DESIGNATION OF PARKING SPACES FOR
THE DISABLED; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PROVISIONS
IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND
SAVING CLAUSE; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE
MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN
TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Wichita Falls finds that there is a need to
insure that parking requirements for disabled persons are met within the City of Wichita Falls;
and,
WHEREAS, the City Council further finds that any and all parking spaces should be
designated for disabled persons according to the requirements of State mandates; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that insuring that disabled parking spaces are
marked properly would benefit those citizens who most need the disabled parking spaces
within the City of Wichita Falls.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 29- 124(f) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Wichita
Falls is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(f) A parking space or area designated for the disabled is one which is marked and
designed as follows:

. A sign shall be permanently affixed and erected in areas where
parking and /or pedestrian movement is likely to occur or where the sign may be an obstruction
to view the clearance to the bottom of the sign shall be at least seven (T) feet from the near
edge of the pavement surface to the bottom of the sign. In off- street parking areas or where
the areas where the sign's porch will not impede or obstruct pedestrian movement, the sign
should be installed with a minimum clearance to the bottom of the sign of at least five (S) feet.
The sign shall be 18" x 12". The sign shall be white with green border and lettering and
arrows, if appropriate. The sign shall have a white wheelchair symbol on a blue background.
The signage shall be in accordance with the diagram in Appendix C, Section 6226.
(2) Where more than two (2) designated handicap parking spaces are located
adjacent to each other, the intermediate locations may be marked by signage as noted in
paragraph (1) or may be designated by signage as noted in paragraph (1) located at each end
space. Where signage is located only at each end space, the signage shall include an arrow
pointing in the direction of the intermediate parking spaces.
(3) Curbs; and wheel stops, and applied stiiping within each designated
handicap parking space shall be painted blue. Applied striping shall be painted white, using
stripes four (4") to six (6") inches wide.

SECTION 2. Should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this
ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any purpose, the remainder of this
ordinance shall not be affected thereby.
SECTION 3. It is officially found and determined that the meeting at which this
ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.
