AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS AMENDING CHAPTER 24, SECTION 24 -21 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES CLASSIFYING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS UNDER
CIVIL SERVICE FOR POLICE OFFICERS IN THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH
THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS
REQUIRED BY LAW; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH.
WHEREAS, The City has been awarded a Universal Hiring Grant from the
Federal Government which will furnish four (4) additional police officers; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes that the number of classified positions be
reflective within the Code of Ordinances.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Chapter 24, Section 24 -21 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Wichita Falls is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 24 -21. Classification under Civil Service.
(a) The following positions in the Police Department are classified under Civil
Service, in compliance with Chapter 143, Section 143.021(a) of the Local Government
Code, and are hereby set out as follows:
Classification -Title
Police officer
Police sergeant
Police lieutenant
Police captain
Police major
Number of Positions

(b) No other person employed by the city may be classified as holding a
position under civil service with the police department."
SECTION 2. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its
passage and publication, in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of
Wichita Falls, and it is so accordingly ordained.
SECTION 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
