CALL TO ORDER:
Penny Miller called the meeting to order at 1:35 pm. The minutes of May 23rd , 2013 were put
before the Board. A motion was made by Ben Filer to approve the minutes and seconded by
John Fritzsch. Minutes were approved by all.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORT:
1. Circle Trail - The City Staff had a meeting with the engineers and contractor to go
over the preliminary construction plans along the Wichita River and Wichita Bluff
Nature area. Since these are preliminary plans each detail needs to be carefully
checked.
We have about twelve acquisitions for this trail and none have been actually acquired
yet. We have not heard from the Grant on the mile and a half trail from TXDOT that
was amended last fall. Hopefully we will hear something in June or July.
There is no change on the other two gaps in the Circle Trail along Lake Wichita and
the BNSF ROW.
2. The Lake Wichita Study Committee was appointed by the City Council and had their
first meeting on Tuesday, June 25'
3. Meeting tonight about Southwest Pond with the board of directors with Field &
Stream about the parking lot.
4. Park Maintenance Department is doing routine summer maintenance. They are trying
to work out the kinks in the highway mowing project they just started. So far it is
going well.
Recreation Department has their summer programs in full force and are doing well.
There have been several Youth Baseball Tournaments at the complex which have
brought in revenue from out of town to the city.
The 50 + Zone is doing well and will be putting in new message boards at the Zone.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Park Improvement Committee report:
City Council appointed the members for the Lake Wichita Study Committee. The
committee had their first meeting Tuesday, June 25. Officers were appointed and
meetings were scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Penny
Miller, Stephen Gardner and Nancy Howell were appointed to the Committee from
Park Board.
2. Friends of the Park organization:
No report from the Friends of the Park organization this month.
