CALL TO ORDER:
Jim Heiman called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from December 7, 2024 were put before the Board for approval.
Dorcas Chasteen made the motion to approve the minutes and Josh Phillips
second the motion.
2. NOMINATION OF CHAIRPERSON & VICE CHAIRPERSON
Motion to nominate board member for Chairperson by Dorcas Chasteen, 2nd
by Josh Phillips. Jim Heiman was nominated and elected.
Motion to nominate board member for Vice Chairperson by Josh Phillips, 2nd
by Sandy Flemming. Alan Donaldson was nominated and elected.
New members: Dawn Ferrell, Steve Garner, Luis Severin were sworn in and
welcomed to Parks Board.
3. DEPARTMENTAL REPORT:
A. Recreation: Scott McGee
• See Attached Recreation Report
• 4 USIA Tennis tournaments are scheduled this year.
B. Parks: Terry Points
• See Attached Parks Report
C. Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee: Steve Garner
• Corps of Engineers has been working with LWRC on dredging the lake.
• Initial proposal when project first started 12.4 million dollars was quoted
for dredging Lake Wichita.
D. Circle Trail Update:
• No update
E. Master Plan:
• 1st meeting was held January 23, 2024 with steering committee for master
plan and the parks board members.
F. Other Business, Announcements, Comments:
• Josh Phillips asks if any new updates for e-bike on trails.
• No updates were reported

Recreation January 2024 Park Board Report
1/23 Facility tour and Park Board/Steering Committee meeting with Half
and BRS staff
Zone numbers for the week at 227 per day.
1/2 New event "Pamper Me" held this month with all 20 spots filled.

1/11 "Dementia Live" Educational Event 31 people attended.
1/25 Annual Winter Carnival
New at the Zone this month " Mahjong"
Recreation Class enrollment at 127 for January includes a new Dance
instructor and additional dance classes plus 3 new arts & crafts classes.
Basketball Season underway with 10 teams.
Softball and Volleyball registration underway for the Spring.
So far through October, 25 tournaments have been
tentatively booked. They include youth softball and baseball, adult softball
and one collegiate women's softball tournament.
Tennis /Pickleball for January all facilities and programs up and running
weather permitting.
United State Senior Pickleball Tournament booked and scheduled for May
4-5, 2024
CDBG: We got the green light to move forward on Lions and Lamar.
Bridwell Park is coming along. The old 100'x 120' slab has been removed. Narrowed fountain
down to two options. Multi-court drawings should be here any day and we will go out for bids.
Veronica is doing a great job so far in the office. She doesn't seem to get frustrated
easily and takes it in stride. She will be doing some training with Finance and HR.
Projects:
Removed twelve old 50' ball field light poles at Lake Wichita Park.
Parking lot at Lake Wichita coming along slowly.
Dirt work at Hursh Park to get ready for new playground.
Removed two homemade pedestrian bridges that were falling apart at Kiwanis
Removed a giant Bois D'arc at the Health Department
We have fifteen FTE and one temp position open.
Projects: Finished last touches at Morningside
