N., an employee of the Health Department's Nursing Division, presented the bimonthly program. The subject of the program was the local teen pregnancy problem and the need for community involvement to address the issue. According to Ms. Moehnke, the Wichita County teen pregnancy rate has been higher than the state average for six out of the seven previous years. Recent surveys have indicated that the number one reason local teens chose not to practice any form of birth control was fear of parental discovery. Ms. Moehnke discussed the relationship between poverty and teen pregnancy. Then she introduced the need to encourage more community participation and was hopeful this will be accomplished after incorporating other adolescent issues in the program. After a brief question and answer period, Ms. Moehnke closed her program by listing recent accomplishments, current projects and future plans of the Teen Pride Coalition. V. Other Business Barbara J. Clements. R. N. C., Director of Health, noted that two (2) Health Department contracts with outside agencies are up for renewal at this time. She and Mr. Jim Dockery, Director of Finance for the City of Wichita Falls, are working with the Family Health Center staff on one of the contracts. The local Humane Society will submit the other one for approval by the City Council at a later date. Ms. Clements noted that she is working on the five year goals and objectives for the Health Department and would like to have input from the Board of Health members concerning this matter.
