I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Purtle at 3:05 p.m. The Commission proceeded on a
bus tour of the area under consideration for historic district expansion.
II. PRESENTATION OF LANDMARK PLAQUE TO DICK BUNDY FOR ELKS HOME
The Commission's first stop on the Bus Tour was the Elks Home. Ms. Purtle presented Mr. Dick Bundy
with a Landmark Plaque for the Elks Home. Following the presentation, the Commission was given a
tour of the building.
III. BUS TOUR OF ENHANCMENT AND HISTORIC DISTRICT
The Commission toured the Enhancement District starting at Fifth Street and Indiana. From there the
bus proceeded South on Indiana, turned on Eleventh Street, and then turned North onto Ohio. The bus
stopped at the Wichita Apartments at Seventh and Ohio. Mr. Charles Douglas gave the Commission a
tour of the building on behalf of the owner, Rick Graham. Currently the building is under major
renovation to be used as apartments after standing vacant for many years. Following the tour of the
apartments, the Commission was given a tour of the Hornsby Hardware building by Barbara Douglas,
owner of the Tea Room. This building is to be used as a tea room and antique store. Renovations are

near completion and the Tea Room will open for business April 1. The Commission was very impressed
with both projects. Following the building tours, the bus drove through the remaining portions of the
Enhancement District and returned to the Memorial Auditorium. Mr. Van Essen reminded the
Commission that the next meeting is on March 18, 1999 and they should receive a copy of the agenda a
week in advance.

The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
