Minutes of Meeting Wichita Falls Arts Commission Thursday, March 19, 1987 The Wichita Falls Arts Commission Meeting opened at 12:10 p.m., March 19, 1987 with the meeting called to order by Vice-Chairman Carolyn Sanders. The follow- ing people were in attendance: Mrs. Cathryn Whaling-At-Large Appt. Mr. Sidney Smith-Fire & Police Museum Mrs. Carolyn Sanders-At-Large Appt. Mrs. Linda Frischer-Backdoor Theatre Mrs. Jane Underwood W. Cty Heritage Soc. Mr. Michael Brown-Midtown Fine Arts Lg. Mr. Henry Dvorken-WF Ballet Theatre Mrs. Betty Hanson-WF Art Assoc. Ms Beth Makibbin-Red River Lyric Theatre Mr. Richard Kulka-At-Large Appointee Dr. Ron Hough-Midwestern State Univ. Mrs. Lynn Hoggard-Times Publishing Dr. June Kable-WF Symphony Orchestra Mrs. Shirley Mathews-At-Large Appointee Mr. Jim Pettijohn-Fire & Police Museum Mrs. Ann Smith-WF Museum & Art Center Mr. John Vitek-WF Symphony Orchestra Mr. Ray Breault-At-Large Appointee Mrs. Sandra Lewis-WF Symphony Orch. Mr. Martha Steimel-At-Large Appointee Mr. Lynn Marshall-At-Large Appt. Mr. Don Burkman-Arts Commission Admin. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The Nominating Committee then recommended the following members to serve as officers for the upcoming year: Mrs. Carolyn Sanders - Chairman Mrs. Betty Hansen - Vice Chairman Mr. Lynn Marshall - Secretary After a review and discussion of how arts funding is requested and administered, Henry Dvorken moved that the Wichita Falls Arts Commission increase the maximum funding of individual grants from the present $7,500 ceiling to a higher ceil- ing of $10,500 per requesting entity. Cathryn Whaling seconded the motion and the motion was approved by unanimous vote. Henry Dvorken next moved that the Wichita Falls Arts Commission request a total allotment of $65,000 to be available for Arts Commission recommendations for the 1987-88 FY Budget. The second was made by Cathryn Whaling and the motion was approved by unanimous vote. Chairman, Carolyn Sanders stated that she would send a memo to Louise Houseworth, Assistant City Manager requesting this allocation before the deadline of May 15, 1987. In a discussion that follawed,organizations (including the W. F. Arts Associa- tion, Heritage Society, W. F. Symphony, Midwestern State University, Ballet Theatre, Fire & Police Museum, Red River Lyric Theatre, W. F. Museum & Art Center, Backdoor Theatre and Midtown Fine Arts) gave brief presentations of their current and future plans, financial situations, and their estimates of their Arts Commission funding needs.
