The Chairman explained that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss and vote
on funding recommendations for the unspent $11,562.23. The Commission reviewed
the three previously submitted proposals, 1) Booker T. Washington Alumni and
Community Archives, $8,000, 2) Memorial Auditorium stage lighting, $1,661,
and 3) Grace Street Corridor, $11,000. The Commission also reviewed an addi-
tional grant request submitted on February 21, 4) Tenth Anniversary Display
MSU - Burns Fantasy of Lights, $5,000.
In response to the Chairman's inquiry as to who would be responsible for seeing
that the Auditorium stage lighting repairs were carried out if approved,
Dvorken stated that he felt he could speak for the Ballet Theatre in agreeing •
to take this responsibility.
Since there was "no precedent for handling the business before us today," the
Chairman stated that he would entertain a motion as to whether "we would like
to fund these projects." First, it was moved and seconded that the Commission
vote funding of these projects. Second, it was moved and seconded that the
Commission vote on these projects individually; the Commission as a whole
approved each motion. Projects approved for funding were Nos. 1) Washington
Archives, 2) Memorial Auditorium stage lighting, and 4) Tenth Anniversary
Display MSU-Burns Fantasy "Three Little Pigs". Project No. 3, Grace Street
Corridor, failed.
