Arts Commission Minutes - 04/19/1983 • r MINUTES OF WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION APRIL 19, 1983 The Wichita Falls Arts Commission met in regular session at noon on Tuesday, April 19, 1983, at the Activities Center. Lyday, Midtown Fine Arts *Earnestine Broyles At-Large Appointee *Don Maxwell Music Department, MSU *Polly Cox Wichita Falls Art Association *Qualified Voter Chairman Murray called the meeting to order at 12:20 P.M. declaring that a two-third's majority voting membership of the Commission was present (14) . All those present introduced themselves by name and responsibility on the Commission. A complete roll of all Agency members and At-large appointees will be forthcoming when information is made available to the Commission. Dorcas Chapman presented the Nominating Committee's slate of officers for the 1983-84 year as follows: David Murray, Chairman Troy Jensen, Vice Chairman Betty Wagner, Secretary There being no nominations from the floor, Hindman moved that the nominations be accepted by acclamation. Motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The Chairman reminded all Commission members to inform their organiza- tions to submit applications for funds no later than September 1, 1983 deadline. Prior to that deadline, he will appoint a screening committee to study the applications. Page 1 of 2 Pages Agenda Item No. 8.c. .14 Wichita Falls Arts Commission Minutes April 19, 1983 Page 2 In response to the Commission's interest in the amount of funds to be allocated to it by the City Council for distribution to various applicants for the year 1983-84, Pat Jones moved "that the Executive Committee act in some way to request that the Arts Commis- sion funding be maintained at its present level at least." The motion was seconded by Jackson and unanimously approved by the Commission. (The present level of funding is $50,000. Funds allocated for the 1982-83 year were $41,308.17. Funds remaining $8,691.83.) Chairman Murray will talk with the Mayor, Gary Cook, and other City Council members. Hindman reported that upon the Arts Commission approval of the Committee's (researching ways and means to light Centennial Sculpture, "Crape Myrtle Abstraction") recommendation that an amount up to $2,500 be granted for the purpose of lighting said sculpture, informa- tion was conveyed to Mr. Lovely of Parks and Recreation. It is reported that the sculpture lighting has been effected apparently through use of funds available in the Parks and Recreation budget. Their being no further business, the next meeting of the Arts Commission was set for Tuesday, September 20, 1983. At this meeting representatives of various organizations will have an opportunity to present and discuss their grant applications, after which the Commission will have time for further discussion prior to voting which will take place at a meeting to be held some two weeks later, Upon motion by Betty Wagner, seconded and approved by members, the Arts Commission adjourned at 12:45 P.M.
