Arts Commission Minutes - 09/21/1982 MINUTES OF WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION SEPTEMBER 21, 1982 The Wichita Falls Arts Commission met is regular session at noon on September 21, 1982 at the Activities Center. Jerry Estes moved, and it was seconded and unanimously approved that the Minutes of the last meeting be approved as mailed. In response to the Chairman's inquiry, Estes reported that the Centennial sculpture had left New Haven, Connecticut, the previous Wednesday morning, 15th, by truck, wide-load, subject to very restrictive travel times, and scheduled for arrival the next Thursday, September 23, with installation to commence Friday morning, 24th, 7 A.M. Everybody was urged to attend. George Sugarman, sculpturer who conceived the outdoor work of art, and D,o nLippincott whose firm cast the piece, would be on hand to assemble and install it. r • • Wichita Falls Arts Commission Minutes September 21, 1982 Page 2 Preceding formal presentation requests for grants, the Chairman read aloud a letter dated September 20, 1982, from Stuart A. Bach, City Manager, City of Wichita Falls, requesting the Commission's consideration of funding the preliminary design work associated with the ultimate construction of a waterfall on the banks of the Wichita River, "a waterfall representative of the rich and colorful history of our City." This request will be added to the applications received for the Wichita Falls Arts Commission for funding from the 1982-83 Budget. City of Wichita Falls - Preliminary Design Work 6,500.00 Wichita River Waterfall T OTAL $48,407.49 Jerry Estes moved that all 12 applications in their present form be included on the ballot for consideration for funding at the next Arts Commission meeting. The motion was seconded by Jenny Louise Hindman. The vote revealed twelve (12) "yesses" and two (2) "no's" out of the fourteen (14) qualified voters present. Wichita Falls Arts Commission Minutes September 21, 1982 Page 3 The next meeting will take place October 5, 1982, noon, Activities Center, to consider and recommend to City Council the total dollar amounts to award to each grant applicant. Bob Arnold, Chairman of the Screening Committee, inquired as to status of "after-action" follow-up evaluation reporting to the Commission by recipients of grants. By general consent of the Commission, Don Burkman will send letters of inquiry to those grant recipients who have not returned a formal evaluation detailing final results of the projects. These evaluations will be helpful to the Commission in its future considera- tions of grant applications. In response to the Secretary's inquiry, the Commission members present confirmed their awareness of the new policies and procedures adopted by the City Council on May 4, 1982 applicable to appointments to City boards, commissions and advisory groups. Preceding adjournment, Bob Arnold, Chairman of the Screening Committee, thanked members Mary Honoure Wolverton and Don Maxwell for their efforts in reviewing the applications. Chairman Murray expressed the Com- mission's gratitude to Don Burkman and his staff for their efforts "in getting all the communications to us." Meeting adjourned at 1:25 P.M.
