Arts Commission Minutes - 09/15/1981 MINUTES OF WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION MEETING SEPTEMBER 15, 1981 The Wichita Falls Arts Commission met in regular session at noon on September 15, 1981, at the Activities Center. The following people were in attendance . Wolverton - - Museum and Art Center Polly Cox Wichita Falls Art Association Chairman David Murray called the meeting to order at 12: 30 p.m. Jennie Louise Hindman moved that the minutes of the last meeting be approved as mailed. The motion passed unanimously. Carolyn Sanders moved that the next meeting be held Thursday, October 1 , at 12 noon at the Activities Center. The motion carried unanimously. Chairman Murray called on Jerry Estes to report on the Application to the National Endowment of the Arts for aid in commissioning a bicentennial sculpture . Jerry, Chairman of the Bicentenneal Projects Committee of the Arts Commission, read a Letter from the National Endowment awarding the city of Wichita Falls $50,000 for commissioning George Sugarman to create a sculpture to be erected in Belvue Park, between July 1, 1981 , and July 1 , 1982, signed Livingston Biddle , Jr. , Chairman. Representatives of organizations applying for grants sumarized their applications and answered questions asked by mem- bers of the Commission. Carolyn Sanders represented Ballet Theater; Bob Hansen, Red River Lyric Theater;Forrest Monohan, Jr. , Railroad Museum; Mary Newton, Distinguished Artists Concerts; Nancy Sherrill, Heritage Society; Don Burkman, Wichita County Historical Commission; Backdoor Theater, Audrey Bushfield; and YWCA,Kathy Whetstone . A Midtown Fine Arts League member did not attend. After guest representatives were excused, the Commission voted to fund all except the Railroad Museum and the County _ Historical Commission. Jerry Estes moved $23,000 be set aside from 1981-;82 budgeting for the bicentennial scupture, the extra $3000 to be used for transportation and promotion; his motion passed unanimously . Chairman Murray said the October 1 meeting would be spent dividing the remaining funds budgeted by the city among organizations which received affirmative votes today, and adjourned the meeting at 1:45 p.m. 7rpectfn _ ly submitted, Polly' Co , Secretary
