WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
February 17 , 1981

The Wichita Falls Arts Commission met in regular
session at noon on February 17 , 1981 , at the Activities Center.
The following people were in attendance:

Vice Chairman Carolyn Sanders called the meeting to
order and Dr . Jennie L. Hindman moved that the minutes of
January 20, 1981, be approved as printed and mailed. The
motion was seconded and passed.
A tabled motion from January 20, 1981 , meeting was
brought to the floor for further discussion in connection with
the deadline date (s) for considering grant funding requests.
Madge Muehlberger restated the motion that May 1 be established
as the deadline date for grant requests to be funded during the
fiscal year beginning the following October 1 through September
30 . The motion was seconded. Following a lengthy discussion,
the motion was defeated. Therefore, the grant application
deadline dates stand at September 1 and February 1.
Dr. Hindman, Chairman of the Grant Screening Committee,
introduced applicants.
A grant application was presented to the Commission
by Mrs . John Gibson, on behalf of the Wichita Falls Youth Chorale,
requesting $7 ,025.00 to defray student expenses in attending the
Vienna Music Festival -- discussion followed.
A grant application was presented to the Commission
by Timothy D. Connors, on behalf of the American College Theatre
Festival of MSU, requesting $2,650 . 00 for a guest critic, work-
shops, programs , advertising, tickets, etc . -- discussion followed.
A grant application was presented to the Commission
by Mrs. Edwin C. Smith, on behalf of the Wichita Falls Ballet
Theatre, requesting $2 ,000 .00 for youth production of spring
program entitled "Souvenirs" (excerpts from famous ballets) --
discussion followed.
A grant application was presented to the Commission
by Robert Hansen, on behalf of the Red River Lyric Theatre,
requesting $2 ,062.50 for the establishment of a summer musical
theatre -- discussion followed.
A grant application was presented to the Commission
by Bob Arnold, on behalf of the Backdoor Theatre, requesting
$7 ,490 .00 for lighting and equipment in furthering establish-
ment of a dinner theatre -- discussion followed.
The Commission will meet in special session February 24 ,
1981, to vote on proposed grant applications .
The meeting was adjourned at 1: 35 p.m.
