WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
September 15 , 1980
The Wichita Falls Arts Commission held its monthly
meeting at noon on September 15 , 1980 , at the Activities
Center . The following people were in attendance :

Chairman Jerry Estes called the meeting to order
and Gwendolyn Jackson moved that the minutes of August 19 ,
1980 , be approved as printed and mailed . The motion was
seconded and passed. Mr. Estes made announcements from TCA,
TAAC and TAA. He also announced that the next regular
meeting would be held October 21 , 1980 .
Mr . Estes informed the Commission that the Midtown
Fine Arts League has received a charter as a non-profit or-
ganization. The Arts League is now eligible for representa-
tion on the Arts Commission. Mr . Estes will submit a name
to the City Council for approval .
The Commission discussed the feasibility of
calling a special meeting to review a report from the Grant
Application Screening Committee. Following discussion, Dr .
Jennie Louise Hindman moved that a special meeting be held
at noon on Tuesday, September 30 , 1980 , at the Activities
Center to hear the Screening Committee Report. The motion
was seconded and passed .
A grant application was presented to the Commis-
sion by Martha Tucker Harvey and Dr . Richard N. Sutton, from
KIDZ Educational TV requesting $7 , 500 . 00 for equipment --
discussion followed .
WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION September 15 , 1980
A grant application was presented to the Commis-
sion by Robert Hansen , on behalf of the Red River Lyric
Theatre, requesting $7 ,500 . 00 for the establishment of a
summer musical theatre -- discussion followed .
A grant application was presented to the Commis-
sion by Betty Wagner , on behalf of the Civic Chorus of the
Greater Wichita Falls Area, Inc . , requesting $2 , 800 . 00 to
provide the Chorus with conducting by Jane Marshall at the
spring concert -- discussion followed .
A grant application was presented to the Commis-
sion by Kathy Whetstone, on behalf of the YWCA Children' s
Theatre of Texas , requesting $1 , 200 . 00 for portable equip-
ment -- discussion followed .
A grant application was presented to the Commis-
sion by Gary Lewis and Dale Prothro , on behalf of Distin-
guished Artists Concerts, Inc . , requesting $2 , 900 . 00 for the
presentation of the 1980--1981 concert series -- discussion
followed.
A grant application was presented to the Commis-
sion by Beth Francell and Diane Spiller , on behalf of the
Wichita County Heritage Society, requesting $7 , 500 . 00 to be
used for a historical and architectural survey of Wichita
Falls -- discussion followed .
The meeting was adjourned at 1 : 50 p.m.
