Arts Commission Minutes - 08/15/1978 MINUTES OF WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION August 15, 1978 The Wichita .Falls Arts Commission held its monthly meeting on August 15, 1978 at the North Texas Savings and Loan Gallery at 12 Noon. The following people were in attendance: NAME AND REPRESENTATION THOSE NOT IN ATTENDANCE AND NOT REPRESENTED Helen Henry-Civic Chorus Mrs. Pat Jones-Heritage Society Steven Howard (for M. Wittlinger-Backdoor) Mrs. Howard Chapman-At-large Linda Bonham (for Harold Bonham-At-large) Mr. Kenneth Kramer-At-large Polly Cox-WF Art Association Saundra Heffington-At-large Jerry Estes-WF Symphony Orchestra John Hampton-At-large \ Jim Miller-(for M. Steimel-WF Times) Gwendolyn Jackson-At-large Dr. Wm. Boland (for D. Maxwell, Music, MSU) Stephen Ondrejas-Planning Div.-City of WF Dr. Jennie L. Hindman-At-large Larry Francell-(for Mary H. Wolverton-Museum) Madge Muehlberger-At-large Carolyn Sanders-WF Ballet Theatre Don Burkman-Memorial Auditorium Chairman Saundra Heffington called the meeting to order. The minutes were approved as printed and mailed. There was a lengthy discussion concerning the gala opening of the Activity Center. In response to a request by Chairman Heffington, Dr. Jennie Louise Hindman moved that Chairman Heffington appoint a planning committee to devise a theme for the grand opening of the Activity Center. Helen Henry seconded the motion and it was approved. The following committee was appointed: Madge Muehlberger and Johnny Hampton, Co-Chairmen, Gwen Jack- son, Dr. Jennie L. Hindman, Saundra Heffington, and Helen Henry. Jerry Estes encouraged this committee and the entire council to consider securing a person of professional quality to be the overall director of the gran3 opening of the Activity Center. Johnny Hampton made the motion that the Wichita Falls Arts Commission go on record as being in favor of the concept of the acquisition of the Wichita Theatre to be used in conjunction with the Activity Center. Dr. Hindman seconded the motion and the entire council enthusiastically voiced their approval.
