Arts Commission Minutes - 06/20/1978 MINUTES OF WICHITA FALLS ARTS COMMISSION June 20, 1978
The Wichita Falls Arts Commission held its monthly meeting
at North Texas Federal Savings and Loan Gallery, June 20, 1978,
at 12 Noon. The following people were in attendance:

Corrections to the previous minutes were made as follows:
1. Jerry Estes represented the Arts Association in addition to
his representation of the Symphony.
2. Th.e terms President and Vice President be changed back to
Chairman and Vice Chairman.
3. Typographical error: respectively submitted to respectfully
submitted.
4. Page 2 of last month's minutes. . .change the word agreed to
discussed.
Johnny Hampton made a presentation of the Application Sheet and
Workbook which his committee put together. Committee members:
Johnny Hampton, Chairman, Mrs. W. S. Sanders, Dr. Don Maxwell,
and Mark Wittlinger. Jerry Estes moved that the adoption of this
application Sheet and Workbook be accepted as recommended by the
committee. Dr. Jennie Louise Hindman seconded. After a long
discussion and two minor word changes, the motion carried unanimous-
ly.
Following Johnny Hampton's recommendation, Dick Gose made the
motion to establish Oct. 1, 1978, cutoff date for applications for
funds for the 1978-79 fiscal year (to end Sept. 30, 1979) and
set Feb. 1, 1979 as a cutoff date for applications for the fiscal
year 1979-80. Mark Wittlinger seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Jerry Estes made the motion that we submit to the Council a
request for $40,000 or more to be put into the fiscal year
1978-79 budget for the Arts Commission. Mark Wittlinger seconded.
The motion carried. It was emphasized in the commission discussion
that the commission itself will not allocate any of the annually
anticipated $40,000 from the hotel-motel tax but will, according
to its legal responsibility, present the applications to the
City Council for decision! !
It was also reported that 4 resumes from the 9 agencies represented
on the commission had been received.
Mrs. Dub Heffington, Commission Chairman, appointed a committee
to check on recent projects supported by Art Councils or Commissions
in other cities. They are as follows: Dr. Jennie Louise Hindman,
Chairman, Mrs. Joe Wolverton, Mrs. Harold Chapman, and Mark Witt-
linger, with Martha Steimel and Saundra Heffington sitting in as
counsultants.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:55 p.m. The next meeting will be
July 18th, 12 Noon, at the North Texas Federal Gallery!
