Mary Wolverton gave a report from the Museum and Art Center. She stated
that the Museum and Art Center has had an arrangement with the City
of Wichita Falls that presently helps underwrite the Museum's costs. She
asked that the Arts Council endorse this concept and recommend its
continutation. Jerry Estes asked to speak to the question. He made the
following motion which will read as follows:
"That the Wichita Falls Arts Commission endorse the contract
between the Wichita Falls Museum and Art Center and the City
of Wichita Falls whereby the Museum receives an allocation of
funds from the City in its annual budget."
Mark Wittlinger seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
Chairman Heffington then opened the meeting to discussion concerning
application for funds. Don Maxwell first spoke concerning Midwestern
opera workshop production of Hansel and Gretel. Dorcas Chapman asked
Mr. Maxwell to bring additional information about his project.
Colonel Don Lyles next presented his application for costumes for a
Six Flags Over Texas Color Guard .
There was no representative from the Midwestern State University's Speech
and Drama nor Music Departments and Chairman Heffington asked that these
be discussed at the November meeting. It was decided that the Midwestern
State Music Department application, Distinguished Artist Series, be
charged under the sponsorship of the Pianists Performance Council. Mark
Wittlinger, representing Backdoor Theatre, discussed the application
from his organization. Carolyn Sanders, representing the Ballet Theatre,
presented their application. There was no representative from the Civic
Chorus, but this application was discussed, with Mrs. C. E. Jackson
supplying much of the information about this application.
Stephen Ondrejas suggested that the Council seriously consider a major
art acquisition for the City such as a statue to be exhibited on a
permanent basis. Matching funds could be used to make this purchase
possible. No action was taken on this suggestion.
Dr. Jennie Louise Hindeman raised the question of proxies. She moved
that the commission request that each agency recommend an alternate
with voting privileges to the City Council for appointment. The motion
carried unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
